At the start of each year, nominations are offered by the members of the churches and a charity is selected to be our ‘Charity of the Year’. We are committed to fundraise for that charity throughout the year. This year we have chosen Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
In June of last year we lost a much loved member of our congregation to Motor Neurone Disease. Arthur Rank Hospice offered Ray and his family valuable support during his illness and made a very difficult time a little easier. In memory of Ray, this is the charity that our churches are committed to supporting this year, through fundraising social events and on occasions, through donations offered during services.
Founded in 1981, Arthur Rank supports people living in Cambridgeshire with an advanced serious illness or a life-limiting condition and those in need of end-of-life care. The hospice cares for around 3,600 patients each year and this is provided free of charge to patients and their families. As a church family, we are keen to support this work which is invaluable to those who need it, and we have heard first hand how the care and support offered by Arthur Rank Hospice has helped Ray and his family.
Our first fundraising event for Arthur Rank House is our ‘Lent Lunch’, which we hold after our Sunday service on Sunday 23rd March (over in the Church Centre.) Drop us an email for a ticket, it is a lovely meal and a great atmosphere. Furthermore, keep an eye out on our ‘Events’ page for our fundraising functions and help us to raise money this year for this important charity.
March Update:
We welcomed Robert, from Arthur Rank Hospice, as our guest speaker during our Sunday morning service. Robert told us all about the work of the Hospice, and where the money we will raise during the year, will go. We had the opportunity to ask some questions and Robert brought along a slideshow which we were able to look at over coffee, after the service.
This month we have also hosted our first fundraiser for the hospice, with all proceeds from our Lent Soup Lunch going to our charity of the year. As well as enjoying some delicious soups and cheeses, we held an impromptu auctioning of a chocolate cake and raised some extra money with a raffle. It was a great way to kick off our fundraising events, our next event will be harvest. Watch this space!
